INTRODUCTORY TRIP TO GET TO KNOW MYANMAR!

Meet the “land of golden pagodas”, Myanmar! Visit the top destination sites starting with the sacred Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, the thousands ancient pagodas of Bagan and the amazing waters of Inle Lake.  We have unique experiences prepared for you like exploring on e-bikes, exciting boat tours and a homecooked lunch especially prepared in a traditional Intha (members of a Tibeto-Burman ethnic group living around Inle Lake) house. We will also visit several local markets to get a glimpse of the daily lives of the Burmese people.

DAY 1 – YANGON (B/-/-)

Feel as if you’ve transferred back through time; enjoy more of the, ”colonial architecture”, walk through the impressive city hall, superior high court which has a grand clock tower that faces the independence monument, an obelisk structure that stands 165 ft tall. Then, visit of the most popular bazaar in yangon, the Bogyoke Uung San market. For the highlight of the day “Walking tour of Shwedagon Pagoda” which rises an impressive 322 feet (98 meters) from its base and is said to have been covered with tons of pure gold.

DAY 2 – FLIGHT TO BAGAN (B/-/-)

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to domestic airport for a flight to bagan.  Upon arrival in bagan, “Sightseeing of the most ancient pagodas of Bagan while riding on e-Bikes”. Start with the Shwezigon Pagoda– this huge gold-plated pagoda glimmering in the sun. Wetkyi-in Gubyaukgyi, noteworthy for its mural paintings and frescoes that depict scenes from the jataka tales. Manuha temple, built in mon style in 1059, Ananda temple, with four standing buddha images at its corners, Htilominlo a majestic 46-meter high Thatbyinnyu temple one of the highest monuments and Dhammayangyi temple contains images of the Gautama buddha and the future Maitreya buddha. Set out on a “boat cruise” and enjoy the vivid sunset view in the mighty Irrawaddy river.

DAY 3 – BAGAN (B/-/-)

You can want to participate in ballooning over bagan to watch the sunrise. Morning at your leisure. Visit of the colorful “Nyaung U market”. You can almost find everything here from vegetables, seafood and poultry, also there is a section selling handicraft, traditional clothing (locals call it “longyi”) and as well as antiques. We will teach you how to wear a longyi.  Learn at lacquerware workshop of the Myinkaba village, notable for its traditional mon-style lacquerware.

DAY 4 – FLIGHT TO HEHO – INLE LAKE (B/L/-)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for domestic flight to heho. Upon arrival to heho airport transfer to nyaung shwe (inle lake). An active adventure awaits today with a boat trip through rural villages on inle lake.  Admire the beautiful floating gardens and also witness the locals with their unusual technique of traditional fishing method, the one-legged rowing. Visit of Phaung Daw Oo pagoda, the holiest religious site in southern shan state, boat construction workshop at Nampan village and Nga Phe Kyaung monastery one of the oldest monasteries on the lake. Arrive at an intha house where you’ll be welcomed for a “home cooked meal”. Moving to Inpaw Khone, a small village with teak stilt houses on the lakeside, learn more about the local traditional weaving technique, which remain unchanged discover a cheroot factory and observe local burmese roll cigars by hand.

DAY 5- FLIGHT TO YANGON – INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURE (B/-/-)

Visit of the morning market in Inle lake, a 5-day rotating market that rotates through five different sites around the lake area. This is mainly visited by inhabitants of the lake and tribes of the surrounding hills to sell and market their products. From Nyaung Shwe, transfer to Heho airport by car and then a flight to back to Yangon. Transfer directly to international terminal for your departure.

  • Early check-in (before 14:00) and late check-out (after 12:00) charges by the hotel
  • Individual expenses of guests not mentioned in the itinerary (laundry, minibar, extra food and beverages out of formed menus or not mentioned in the INCLUSIONS.)
  • Tip for guides & drivers, bellboys, boats, restaurants (suggested at USD 6/pax/day)
  • Personal Travel Insurance (cover against all cancellation costs, medical expenses, including repatriation, in the event of accident or illness)

Low Season (May–Sep)

The southwest monsoon starts mid-May and peaks from July to September. The dry zone between Mandalay and Pyay gets the least rain. Rain can make roads impassable anywhere (especially in the delta region).

Shoulder Season (Oct–Nov, Mar–Apr)

March to May Yangon often reaches 104ºF (40ºC). Areas around Bagan and Mandalay are hotter. Cooler in the hill towns of Shan State. All forms of transport booked solid during Thingyan in April.

High Season (Dec–Feb)

Rains least (if at all, in some places) and is not so hot. Book accommodation and transport well ahead for this busy travel season.

Do’s and Don’ts:

  1. Ask before taking a photo; the Burmese can be very shy.
  2. Locals love a good smile, so make sure you return it as often as you can.
  3. Don’t point at things (ie. in a market place) with your foot. This is considered very disrespectful.
  4. Cover your head, shoulders and knees. when visiting religious sites. Visitors must also remove shoes and socks before entering temples.
  5. The people of Myanmar really appreciate it when tourists take part in their local traditions.
